How does it work?

WBmonitor conntects to your website (called monitor) on an interval you can set from once per hour up to once per 24 hours.

1. Changes in files, database or error logfile

Whenever a change is detected an email is sent to the email address you used to create the account.
This email will tell you what changes were detected (files changed/added/removed, database changes or added lines in the errorlog), and set the next test to be executed 5 minutes later.

If the next tests also generate emails witch changes WBmonitor will stop with reporting after 4 emails. Testing will go on, but until a test was done without changes there will be no more emails. Also the testing interval will be set to your normal interval again.
This procedure is to prevent sending many emails when you (or your customer) are working on that website.

2. Connection errors

Connection errors are treated a little bit different.

If WBmonitor could not connect to your website it will first set the next test to be done in the next minute. If it still is not possible to connect (or any other http error) you will get notified if this was configured in the profile of the monitor.
Only this second test will send an email, so you will not get 60 emails per hour telling you the website is not responding.

Please note that WBmonitor is not created for this purpose. You will not get a message telling the website is responding again. You should not rely on this as online monitor.
If you want reliable uptime monitoring it is advised to use specialized services like Uptime robot.

3. Testing interval

WBmonitor allows you to configure the testing interval. The minimum interval is 60 minutes, the maximum interval is 24 hours.

The interval will not be an exact value. Since many websites are being monitorred and websites might respond slowly some protections are built in.
At this time testing is limited to 6 monitors per minute. If multiple websites are slow responding it might be that fewer tests are done. Any scheduled tests will be done in the next minute.
This procedure is to protect both your webserver and the WBmonitor server against high processor loads for a long time.

4. Removing a monitor

The standard way to remove a monitor is by using the admintool in your website and sign out. The monitor will be removed from your account and free up the space for others.

If your website is down for more than 48 hours WBmonitor will assume the website is not active anymore and the monitor will be removed automatically.
To reactivate the monitor, uninstall the admintool on your website, and reinstall a new instance.
